Church Hill Senior Center Garden

Founded in 2010, Church Hill Senior Center Garden is a raised bed vegetable, small fruit, herb and native perennial garden.  All of the garden's produce is donated back to the community -to the Senior Center lunch program, Of One Accord Ministry's food pantry, and Meals on Wheels participants. To date, we have donated over 35,000 lbs of fresh veggies.  We also provide educational programs for the youth of the community when time and participation allows.

Mission: To provide seniors and those in need access to fresh produce.

To create a biodiverse environment where garden members can receive both exercise and well-being.

To provide educational opportunities for all age ranges in the community.

What We Do

From mid-February to late October, we meet on a once or twice weekly basis to tend to the garden and its crops.  We are a no pesticide use garden and we make our own compost for use in the beds.

Planning, sowing, planting and other garden tasks are mutually agreed upon and performed by all participants.

We have held educational sessions for local youth (scouting groups, library reading groups, etc ) in the past but these have been put temporarily on hold due to Covid.

Being a transplant to TN from NC, volunteering at the Church Hill Senior Center Garden was such a positive experience because it made me feel an attachment to the area.  Of course, doing good for the community was the reason to help with the garden, but I got so much back from the other volunteers.
